Building a Lean Startup — an Overview
February 22 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Calling all entrepreneurs and those looking to launch a new business, non-profit or other venture efficiently and effectively: Kevin Learned, Director of the Boise State Venture College, will present an introductory workshop on Lean Startup techniques. The Boise State Venture College helps over 50 BSU entrepreneurs each year.
The Lean Startup School argues that most entrepreneurs spend too much time and effort on their product/service and creating business plans before they have established that a profitable and reachable market exists. As a consequence, they often invest precious resources in the wrong activities and risk running out of cash (while working on the wrong things).
At this introductory workshop you will learn the principles of Lean Startup as taught by startup guru Steve Blank including searching for a business model, the business model canvas, customer discovery and validated learning. You will practice applying the concepts to well-known businesses and leave with a basic understanding of how you can apply these concepts to your own early-stage business.
Learned is an experienced entrepreneur, having co-founded Idaho’s first software company to scale nationally, and is past-president of the Boise Angel Alliance where he has participated in more than 30 angel led financings. He was trained in Lean Startup techniques by Steve Blank and helps about thirty Boise State student entrepreneurs apply Lean techniques to their startups each year.
